Pre-payment Versus Insurance Plan Policies
With Insurance you will pay a fixed monthly amount for the rest of your life (or until age 90). A fixed sum will be paid on your death, but the amount may not cover the total cost of the funeral.
The fixed sum does not rise with inflation.
There is normally no cash-in value if you cancel your policy or if you miss two or more premiums - you will lose all the money you have paid.
When you make arrangements to pre-pay for your funeral
You might have recently watched the reports into the Prepayment Funeral Plan industry and we wish to re-assure you that the plans that you have with us are safe.
The plans we have in place have been arranged through Funeral Planning Services until January 2017 when we changed over to Golden Leaves Limited.
Both these companies are registered with the Funeral Planning Authority (FPA) https://funeralplanningauthority.co.uk/
When you paid for your prepayment plan the funds were put into trust by these two companies, we, the funeral directors do not have access to these funds until time of need.
You will see from the plan paperwork that your funds are split into two elements, Funeral Directors Costs/Services and Disbursements.
The fee covered by the Funeral Directors Costs/Services will never increase, this is guaranteed.
The fees covered by the disbursements element of the plan we have absolutely no control over, as these fees are set by the supplier who provides the service. E.g. Burial or Cremation provider, doctors and ministers/celebrants.
When setting the price for the pre-payment plan we have looked at the costs prevailing at the time and included this amount within the plan under disbursements. This element of the plan cannot be guaranteed to cover the full cost of disbursements at time of need and we have always made this very clear at the time of taking out the plan, meaning that at time of need there may be additional costs to pay, which will always be discussed and agreed with your executors when arranging to provide the service for you.
